6 inch 'Crosscut' or 'Great American' file

For saws with a pitch of 4 or less teeth per inch. Because the file is single cut it leaves the tooth smooth in contrast to aggressive double cut files which leave grooves in the tooth face.

The rounded back of the 6inch file deepens gullets 4.2mm to 6.5mm width. You get great control with the narrow cross-section of 17deg because you remove metal from only ONE single tooth. Conventional 60deg triangular files must touch TWO teeth at once and so these force you to look at two places at once
